Due to confidentiality, I am unable to show any photo of the exact work I did while working under the lab. However, I am able to detail my general day-to-day work and responsibilities. The motivation behind the work I was conducting was that studies have found that patients much rather prefer to orally digest medicine over injections. However, many medicines such as mRNA vaccines can only be injected leading to the development of PAULINA (Precision Administration of UltraLoaded Injectable NAnocarriers).
I particularly worked on Jetting PAULINA which was a device which would administer the drug in the stomach with the use of springs through a small nozzle. The main design requirements for the device were:
Be small enough to be orally injected
Self-orient to have the device nozzle in contact with the stomach to eject the drug in the right direction
Hold 175-250𝜇m of medicine
Push the medicine with a minimum force of 0.7N, the theoretical force required to penetrate stomach tissue
On my day-to-day I would have daily and at time
